Parts Obsolescence Solution with Programmable Logic

Managing and making the appropriate decision for parts obsolescence can be challenging, but Retro Devices Technology, LLC has introduced a product which alleviates some of the burden during the transitional phases of the parts obsolescence solution.

Retro Devices Technology, LLC has produced a programmable logic device to temporarily delay the parts obsolescence situation by allowing the field activity system administrator to have more time to make a prudent and cost effective business decision.

Retro Devices Technology, LLC is offering the RDTTL5V-14. This device is a programmable 5V TTL compatible digital logic gate device that can be configured to any 74LS discrete digital logic gate functions offered in a 14-pin DIP package footprint. Other than the power and ground pins, the remaining pins are configurable as input, output or bi-directional. The output pin can also be configured to be a logic gate with an open drain output. This feature allows the RDTTL-14 to mimic obsolete parts with logic gates requiring an open collector output. The RDTTL-14 can also be used to inject system faults to test system fault detection hardware and software.

Since the RDTTL-14 is a temporary solution to parts obsolescence, it is not intended for low power, flight critical or life support applications. Ultimately, the field activity system administrator is responsible and must always review the electrical and packaging specifications when substituting the RDTTL5V-14 for the obsoleted part.
